Wow, thanks for visiting Your Day Your Style. I hope you have found some useful information to make your days more stylish and full of your favorite things.
I started YDYS out of my love for helping people simplify (saving time), be savvy at home and in business, and live a life in your own style.
I have been an entrepreneur since I was young. In the 3rd grade I sewed recorder cases and sold them to my classmates for 25c. I made a class newspaper on my father’s work copier. I cut and sold my mother’s flowers at the end of the driveway. It cataloged all our books and implemented a checkout system in the family room. It’s apparently in my blood.
In 2005 I started my first online store, Resa Design, making and selling baby changing pads. What started as a small hobby became my full-time job. Over the next 5 years we would create and add more products, develop a brand, design packaging, learn the sales lingo, ship worldwide, fill retail store orders, contract out manufacturing, upgrade our eCommerce site, do craft shows, quit craft shows, source suppliers, deal with federal changes (CPSIA) and more. It was an amazing learning experience and has fueled my passion to help moms launch their ideas into small businesses while keeping their family fed, well, and having fun.
I did all these things while raising two young boys, far away from family, and keeping up a home while my husband worked in full-time church ministry. These things are actually all still true, except my small boys are bigger now, and in 2010, with eCommerce sales and US economy in a huge slump, I retired my online store.
I love graphic design and photography and have been able to keep up an ETSY store selling digital goods (which is far less time consuming that material ones).I also do lots of freelance work for my fellow eCommerce owners, small business owners, and even book authors. I have also turned my product photography into a family and children’s photography business that keeps me busy seasonally. My husband and I have a love for vintage and industrial goods and sell what we can’t help but buy in a small ETSY store that doesn’t get near enough attention.
So “how do I do it all”?
That’s an amazing question. One I hope you find answers to within the articles of this blog. I am by no means a master of just about anything (except maybe sleeping). I juggle lots, just like you do, and drop the ball more times than I care to recall, but I keep taking steps forward. I have a passion for learning and sharing what I know. You will likely walk away from a conversation with me, with some random tidbit of information or a tip – it’s just who I am. I have the hardest time keeping secrets (the fun kind) because I have a deep desire for you to enjoy life to the fullest in the simplest way possible. If I find something that works for me- to simplify, save resources (time or money), or make life more beautiful, I’m going to tell you.
I don’t “do it all” – I have tried that and failed hard. I do only what I feel called by God to – and there I work with all my heart – most of the time, I’m a work in progress. I’m not perfect but I do work really hard to learn from each life experience and apply what I learn to improve the next one. I bet you do that to and that’s why you are here.
I pray what you read stirs something inside you to discover more of God’s purpose for you. (BTW, which is not the same purpose He has for me, so resist any temptation to compare my life to yours. More on that later.)
Thanks for spending your time with me. I love hearing from readers so comment or contact me anytime.
Who am I?
I am Resa- pronounced Reesa. (Actually Maresa, but that even my parents don’t call me that). I love Jesus. I love my husband (who was my college sweetheart). I love my two boys (who are curious and sensitive). I love my loud Italian, New Jersey, family. I love my church. I love my girl friends. I love living in the mid-west.
I love God and people; and like things. Always in that order.
So I like- my home, chai latte’s, sweater weather, picnics, hiking, step aerobics, designing, capturing moments with my camera, organizing, keeping things neat, making things better/smoother/more efficient, math, science, British dramas set in times past, black bean soup, walnuts, peanut butter, Reese’s cups (cute I know), clean lines and simple patterns, and in the right mood I like cooking.
I don’t like- nail polish on my fingers, the smell of my boys after they have been playing outside, really anything that smells (my husband says my nose is super sensitive), running; dogs, cats, ok pets and animals in general; any food that mixes textures like cottage cheese and apple sauce; the smell or feel of bananas; pot roast, ham, key lime pie; politics; being hot; and reading self-help books (although I make myself from time to time because I need help).
Still want to know more about me?
My degree I am a Social Worker, but I left that field years ago. I do use those skills at home A LOT, so I suppose it was worth all the effort. I went to college in Oklahoma, which was life changing and a long way from my home in New Jersey. When my oldest son was a newborn I created a changing pad to fit in my diaper bag that also actually worked as a changing pad (covered the space needed to do a proper change). Long story short, I started a company called Resa Design, LLC. We manufactured a hand full of children’s products and clothing items. Sold them all over the world. My hobby turned 80 hour job. It was fun and exhausting. I have had a slew of interesting jobs from working in Juvenile Justice and Child-welfare investigating to managing a retail store.
Want to know more about Jesus?
Jesus gave His life for me and for you, by dying on a cross, so that we would be saved when we asked Him into our hearts, and live forever in Heaven and not hell. He is my closest friend, a kind and loving father, my healer, my provider, the best listener and wisdom giver. He has blessed me beyond what I deserve and lets me get up every time I fall with no shame or guilt. He loves you the same way. You are enough for Him, just as you are. If you have questions, I can try to answer them, or find the answer for you. You can also visit THIS site for solid information about a relationship with Jesus.
